My passion to help others is rooted in my story of academic and personal achievement. I am the first person in my family to graduate from college, and I could not have done it without the benefit of tutoring. In my early academic career, nothing about me would have indicated long-term success. I feared public speaking, was a poor test taker, and suffered through a speech problem. What turned things around for me was exceptional support from teachers and my parents and the enormous benefits of being part of a tutoring program aimed at first-generation college students. In this program, I became a better student and leader. My tutors were helpful and patient, and they challenged how I thought. They set me up for the success I would experience when I would later attend college. I graduated from Indiana University and knew that I had to give back what I had learned. Since that time, I have made presentations on my college experience and public speaking. I have worked as a volunteer tutor and assisted my younger siblings on their academic journey. I work at a Boston ad agency as an assistant account exec. Outside of tutoring, I am an active community volunteer, serving on several boards. I have also been actively involved in four political campaigns.
